Yes, if you have instant kava, NO, if you have traditional grind kava. The root fibers are present in traditional grind kava, and they irritate the stomach. That is why it needs to be kneaded in a mesh bag in water.

For instant kava, one small spoonful (appx 5 grams) makes one shell. We usually drink three or four shells in an evening. For traditional kava, you need to do some work. Use 50 grams (about ¾ of one cup) for every litre of water, knead the kava in the mesh bag for at least 5 minutes. Enjoy!

Yes, but they are less effective and not recommended. You can put the kava and water in a blender and blend it for three minutes. Not much longer or the kava will overheat and taste nasty. You still have to pour it through the strainer bag, though.
